Glad I’m Not a Hedgehog

People are weird. I’ve known that since I was roughly 5 but nothing brings it home like viewing the search terms people use before they click in to your website.  I have Google Analytics for all my sites and while I haven’t actively tried to make money from them (<— successfully squashed the urge to used the word “monetize” there. Score: Me — 1, CorpSpeak — 0 )… Where was I? Oh yeah, While I haven’t tried to make money from the sites yet I still have access to all the tools that you need to figure out how...

Baking in the Heat

July 23, 2011
By

I’m not really sure why I decided I needed to bake when it was 100 degrees outside, but I did. First apples harvested of the season and they just needed to be turned into an apple streusel cake. Fending off boys who think it should be eaten now instead of after dinner.

Apologies, Suspicion and Karma

Today I was told something that left me feeling…verklempt is the only word that describes it properly. What was that you ask? Well, you will need background first to fully understand why. My stepson Billy went to visit his mother this week. Which doesn’t seem a remarkable thing unless you know that he is an adult and has pretty much avoided her since he was 17.  This was an act of self-preservation on his part.  In his life she left a trail of broken promises, irrational dramatic scenes, emotional abuse and other less than pleasant artifacts.  So he decided...

Lightning for Putzes.

Lightning for Putzes.

Today has been a rough day. I said goodbye to Schuyler and I am pretty much miserable about his leaving for the Marines.  Even more miserable than I thought I would be. I’m just really not happy about the whole thing.  So I’ve been mopey and irritable ever since I gave him his last hug for months to come. I posted a couple of pictures on Facebook that we took today before he left. Just because. It was something to do. And then some putz comments “He will learn to follow orders and not think for himself. Yay!” I...

Strange Career Choices

I was watching the news this morning. I shouldn’t have done that.  For the color section they had some guy named Throwdini. What does he do? Well…he throws knives at people. By day he is a preacher of some sort. But his real love is throwing sharp pointy things at girls who are spinning around on a target. I don’t know why anyone would want to do that but more baffling to me is why anyone would sign up to be a target girl. They asked the girl and she said, “Well, I’ve never had a dull life…” Yeah,...

From My House to the Halls of Montezuma

I’ve been avoiding writing about this. Heck, I have been avoiding thinking about it. But, in less than 72 hours it is a done deal and thus I can’t avoid it any longer. Those of you that know your military theme songs may have some inkling of what this is about. For those that don’t? My son, affectionately known as Schuyler-boo, went and joined the Marines late last year. He leaves on the 10th of July. I don’t know why he joined the Marines. He hasn’t been able to articulate it to me and I haven’t pushed.  I think...

Come Write With Me

callforsubmissions

This is a call for submissions of sorts. Allow me to explain… As most of you are aware, I started my forum back up. Thank you to the 68 that have joined and the 4 that have posted. (hint, hint) While I was wandering around in the .php and .tpl files and customizing things I found a plug-in for it that would allow me to use rss feeds to auto post discussions. It occurred to me that there are lots of people with blogs out there that don’t know each other and could benefit from being syndicated into the...

She Asked For It

My email inbox today just makes me weary.  Yet another compassionless twit in love with his own brilliance has weighed in on the rape of Lara Logan.  Dan Rottenberg actually wrote his drivel back on June 6th of this year but I’ve been otherwise occupied. I hadn’t been paying attention to the emails I get that call for such people’s heads on a pike every other day (change.org I’m talking about you) so I missed it until I started digging around this morning in a bout of insomnia. Dan Rottenberg is an editor for the Philadelphia Broad Street Review....
